After 3 hours of ‘painful’ debate on November 13, our elected officials ordered the City Manager to request a review from the
Ethics Commission of the Mayor’s August 2013 advisory opinion; that opinion being the basis for Mayor Haynie’s justification for continued voting on Batmasian projects. The Ethics Commission’s Executive Director rejects the request and the Mayor, who has publically stated she welcomes an Ethic’s commission review, now refuses to submit a new request with a current fact pattern for analysis and direction. The City Council can and must act. They have policing powers as I pointed out in this week’s commentary, but that suggestion was rejected hands-down as articulated in Deputy Mayor Rodgers’ comment published in BocaWatch this past week….No surprise
